Ilaria and the Awakening of Princess Aila

The land of Ilaria, a realm of fair-skinned people marked with striking black ink that earns them the playful, yet somewhat dismissive, nickname "Zebras," is a nation steeped in history, faith, and burgeoning conflict. Ilaria's borders stretch across the western side of the landmass, stopping short of Mt. Shuk in the west where Kalbakian protection holds sway over Fallon and its surroundings. To the southeast, their reach extends just beyond Ila City, a vital coastal trading hub. Beyond these boundaries lie the perilous Greedy Forest and the treacherous lands of Naruvia.

A Kingdom Forged in Unity:

One hundred cycles ago, Ilaria faced a crisis. The departure of the legendary figure Ila left a power vacuum, sparking fear and uncertainty. From this turmoil arose Amos, Lord of Ishman, a nephew of the esteemed warrior Ishmael. Amos, a devout follower of Ila's teachings, rallied the people, reminding them of the 12 Edicts and the wisdom of the Mystic Priests. He assured them that unwavering faith and unity would ensure their survival and Ila's eventual return.

Though Ila never returned, the people of Ilaria embraced Amos' vision. They fortified their defenses, shared resources, trusted the Mystic Priests, and ultimately found stability and peace. In gratitude, they crowned Amos their King. To this day, the ruling clans of Ilaria trace their lineage back to the Ibrahim Clan, founded by King Amos and Queen Armalla of Ishman.

The Pillars of Ilarian Society:

The modern Ilarian society is held up by key leaders in each major city. Lord Astor of Ishto, from the Haven Clan, governs the northern city perched atop jagged cliffs overlooking its bustling bay. Lady Ariel of the Larkin Clan rules Ila City in the southeast, a crucial port for trade. Though technically ruled by Lord Athen, also of the Larkin Clan and brother to Lady Ariel, the capital city of Ishman is effectively governed by King Amos V himself.

Ishto: Gateway to the Northern Seas:

Ishto's strategic location makes it a vital trade hub. As the last stop for ships traveling northwest and northeast, the city thrives during much of the cycle. The freezing of the Ice Sea to the north during winter, however, effectively closes off the northwest passage, making Ishto all the more important during the warmer seasons. The Ilarian North Keep diligently guards the border against unauthorized crossings from the island of Arn Bak.

Ila City: Southeastern Seaport:

Ila City thrives as a major port, connecting Ilaria to the wider world. When the northern seas freeze, ships can sail from Ila City around Naruvia to the trading capital of Kalbakalos. However, as the north thaws, the seas between Naruvia and Ios become treacherous due to partial freezing. Furthermore, the Naruvians, fiercely protective of their territory, forbid passage through their islands.

Ishman: The Bastion of Safety:

Nestled on a hill with the mountains as its backdrop, Ishman is the safest city in Pilo, thanks to King Amos' wise and fair rule, enforced by Lord Athen and the Capital Knights.

The Ila Faithful:

Among the Ilarians, a dedicated group known as the "Ila Faithful" practice a unique form of devotion. Bound by a vow of silence, they communicate through intricate hand gestures. They abstain from bodily ink markings, wealth accumulation, and multiple sexual partners, dedicating their lives to serving others. However, their numbers dwindle with each passing cycle, and they are often ridiculed by those who do not understand their unwavering faith.

The Mystic Awakening:

King Amos V, a just and respected ruler, maintains good relations with the Mystic Priests, though he must keep these interactions private due to widespread distrust of the mystics. He faces a difficult decision regarding his only child, Princess Aila. She has begun to exhibit signs of "Calling," a manifestation of mystical abilities. Torn between his duty to the kingdom and his love for his daughter, Amos grapples with the prospect of sending her away to train with the Mystics. Aila, deeply attached to her father since the death of her mother, is hesitant to leave the only parent she has ever known.

Princess Aila: The Reluctant Hero:

Princess Aila is not just a noblewoman preparing to rule. She is unknowingly heir to an ancient power, the Chosen One of a prophecy foretelling a Mystic Awakening.

Her Journey:

When the Call of the Mystics manifests within her, Aila is sent to the last great Mystic Temple for training. As war looms, she finds herself drawn into an ancient prophecy connected to the lost Sun Speakers. Her destiny culminates in a battle where she unleashes the power of Aman, the Sun Deity, against King Kal.

Key Relationships:

Her father, King Amos V, faces a painful conflict between his duty to the throne and his love for his daughter. The High Priest of the Mystic Temple serves as her reluctant mentor. Lady Ariel of Ila City is her fierce protector and trusted advisor.

Ilaria stands at a crossroads. War is brewing, ancient powers are stirring, and a reluctant princess must embrace her destiny. The fate of Ilaria, and perhaps Pilo itself, rests on the shoulders of Aila, the Chosen One.
